Orlando is easy to navigate thanks to a well-planned network of roads. The main routes of Interstate 4 (I-4) and International Drive connect the city’s attractions.

The distances are so great between the parks that in Orlando, car hire really is the most option.

Two airports – Orlando International Airport (MCO) and Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) – serve the area and access to hotels, villas and other accommodation in Orlando is a doddle from either airport.

Car parking is usually free at the large parks, such as those within the Walt Disney World Resort (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom) at Lake Buena Vista. Universal Studios and the Harry Potter theme park are other hugely popular parks for holidaymakers in Orlando and the wetter pleasures at Wet ‘n Wild, Discovery Cove, and Sea World also draw the crowds.

If you’re planning on splashing some cash at the shops during your Florida holiday, then your car boot (locals say trunk) is sure to be filled thanks to hundreds of shops at colossal malls such as Fashion Square and the Florida Mall.

Downtown Orlando is a more grown-up playground, with plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants in which to enjoy the historic heart of the city. There are plenty of golfing opportunities to be found around Orlando, and the upmarket 500-acre resort at Grande Lakes is also likely to tick a few boxes for the adults.

Beyond the city boundaries, Kissimee is a great alternative to staying in Orlando, while the Kennedy Space Center can be found on the east coast. Legoland is 45 minutes away from Orlando by car, and the temptations of fun-packed Busch Gardens are just 90 minutes by car in Tampa Bay, on the west coast.

Supplementary Liability Insurance:

• All rentals in the USA and Canada include third party liability cover, which conforms to the statutory minimum required by each state but can be as low as $5,000

Extended Protection:

• Our prices include excess liability cover, known as extended protection (EP). This offers third party liability cover above the minimum level of protection (see above) and increases your third party protection to $1,000,000 in respect of any claims made against you.
• EP also provides coverage up to $100,000 ($40,000 in Texas) to the renter and any family member related by blood, marriage or adoption, who, while occupying the rental car, sustained bodily injury or death caused by a negligent, uninsured/underinsured motorist.

• Where the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• Where the driver(s) has not been named on the rental agreement
• When damage is caused by the rental vehicle being towed away by any unauthorised third party
